Der Cast der Sci-Fi-/Fantasyserie „Supernatural“ nimmt so oft an Fan-Conventions teil, wie kaum ein anderes – und dies in Städten auf der ganzen Welt.
Vom Drehort Kanada angefangen bis nach Texas, über England bis Italien und sogar nach Australien reisen die Schauspieler der Serie, um Fragen von Fans zu beantworten, für Interviews und Foto-Ops hinzuhalten und stundenlang Fotos zu signieren.
Seit nunmehr 10 Jahren hält sich Supernatural sehr wacker im Programm des US-amerikanischen Fernsehens – und das trotz relativer Unbekanntheit im Vergleich zu so manchen Kassenschlagern. Doch Supernatural ist DER Fan-Favorit schlechthin, was sich an den meist ausverkauften Conventions rund um den Globus zeigt. Nicht zufällig wurde die Serie um eine 11. Staffel verlängert.
Aktuell befindet sich das Cast in Rom auf der alljährlichen Convention, die “Jus in Bello”, kurz „JIB Con“ genannt wird. Einen Tag davor fand noch die – ebenso alljährliche – Convention „Asylum 14“ im Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel in England statt.
Das Schauspieler-Duo Rob Benedict (“Chuck“)und Richard Speight Jr. (“Gabriel”) gehört, obwohl beide Rollen offiziell nicht mehr in der Serie vorkommen, zu den Grund-Teilnehmern diverser Conventions.
Benedict und Speight Jr. berichten nun von ihren Erfahrungen mit den Conventions, den Fans und allem Drumherum in ihrer Dokumentation „Kings of Con“ mit dem Untertitel „Meet Rob and Rich. These Two Men Are Super Famous... 13 Weekends A Year“, welcher auf witzige Art und Weise den Unterschied zwischen der Bekanntheit der Supernatural-Schauspieler und dem konventionellen Ruhm von anderen Kollegen recht deutlich macht.
Mithilfe des Online-Fundraisers Indiegogo schafften es die beiden, diese Doku zu finanzieren. Das angesteuerte Ziel von $ 100.000,- USD wurde in etwa einem Monat nicht nur erreicht, sondern üm beinahe das doppelte übertroffen. Insgesamt $ 279.905,- USD wurden von 5.081 Personen auf der ganzen Welt aufgebracht.
Dies zeigt den enormen Einsatz und Engagement der Fangemeinde einer doch relativ unbekannten Serie und die Kraft, die hinter der Masse steckt, wenn diese sich zusammen tut und für etwas, das ihr wichtig ist, kämpft. Die Zusammenarbeit und vor allem der Zusammenhalt zwischen Fans und den Machern von Supernatural – Schauspielern, Crew und Produzenten gleichermaßen – ist einer der Gründe dafür, dass es die Serie noch gibt und sich die Anhängerschaft stets erweitert. Die enorme Hingabe der beiden Hauptdarsteller Jensen Ackles und Jared Padalecki, welche den Großteil des Jahres mit dem Dreh der Serie verbringen und die restliche Zeit auf Conventions, und deren brüderliche Beziehung zueinander erwärmt so manches Zuseher-Herz. Nicht umsonst nennt sich die Fangemeinde "Supernatural Family".

Now, after years of appearing at airport hotels across the country and abroad, they’ve created "Kings of Con", a single camera comedy inspired by their real experiences that goes beyond the autograph lines and photo ops to what really makes the cons truly crazy and unpredictable - the actors paid to be there.
